Starbucks' Invention of the Semi-Permanent Cup to Eliminate Waste Essay

To help eliminate waste, Starbucks has invented a semi-permanent cup. As Starbucks continues to implement measures to go green, they are seeking every possible way to eliminate waste, cut down on air pollution, and help their farmers grow the products in an environmentally friendly way, all this while making continuous profit. The semi-permanent cup was invented to help each store cut down on was produced by the empty beverage cups. Customers can purchase these cups for 1 and refill them for only .10. On average the cups last about one month if they are properly cared for and not washed in the dishwasher, lost, crushed, or forgotten. These reusable cups are also free advertising. A customer places the cup in their car, takes it into the store, or cleans it at their house and multiple people will see the different cup and its purpose. Starbucks stores are reportedly selling out of these cups and customers take them everywhere. As Starbucks cuts their overhead they are also raising their profit levels as well as saving their customers money.These cups also cut down on landfill waste. As more and more customers are purchasing semi-permanent cups the amount of waste per store is cut significantly as less and less disposable cups are thrown away after their first use. Not only has Starbucks created the semi-permanent cup, they have also produced plastic and glass permanent cups. With the increased sales in the semi-permanent cup and the option to purchase a permanent cup Starbucks is saving the customers money as well as cutting out unnecessary waste. This is another way that Starbucks is becoming more eco-friendly as well as boosting their green strategy.
