A Business Strategy for My Family's Transport Company Essay

(500 word maximum)My parents have been running a transport company named Changshan Transporting LLC that mainly deals with local chemical plants, suppliers and buyers. For the past few summer vacations, I worked in the companys financial department to help process the daily cash flow and examine the data from financial statements. Because of my undergraduate specialty in enterprise risk management, Penn State University, I also joined the management staff to evaluate potential business risks at a strategic level. During the process, I kept taking initiative to improve the companys profit gaining ratio, which required thorough pre-investigations, and a creative mindset. For example, once I collaborated with another financial assistant to complete a quantitative study of the competitors pricing system and services. We together calculated the revenue generated per truck and corresponding costs to verify if a new truck could help us gain larger profits. Our findings showed that in a longer period of time, we could recoup the truck purchase expenditure by improving overall production and increasing revenue. I thus proposed the purchase of a new truck to enhance our capabilities of undertaking more orders. Another impressing experience, in response to the question, was that I initiated the Safe Drive project among the drivers team. In year 2015, we suffered from a transport accident which not only resulted in financial losses, but also aroused the attentions of the management team.
