An Assessment of NeverWet, a Subsidiary of Ross Technology Corporation Essay

1.1 General Company DescriptionThe company we have selected, NeverWet, is its own subsidiary of the company Ross Technology Corp. that was formed in 2008. Ross Technology Corp. was founded in 1962 as a steel fabrication shop. Over the years, this company began developing creative technologies in the steel industry such as slip resistant floor plates, laser technology for product design, and energy absorbing technologies. Originally, Ross Technology Corp. was looking towards creating a new technology that would help prevent the corrosion of steel. Their research and development group produced a nano-particle coating that effectively prevented this steel corrosion. Along with the prevention of steel corrosion, the research and development group realized that it resisted water, mud, ice and other liquids on various materials. The company realized that this new technology was extremely useful and could ultimately become very profitable. For that reason, Ross Technologies decided to create a subsidiary for the NeverWet product. NeverWet did not have the capabilities to manufacture its own products on a large scale, so they decided to go to Rust-Oleum (a manufacturer of protective paints and coatings for both home and industry). In return for manufacturing NeverWet, Rust-Oleum would receive a royalty for a small percentage of every NeverWet product sold. NeverWet functions as its own LLC, but has their manufacturing done by Rust-Oleum. Rust-Oleum NeverWet is a super hydrophobic treatment that dramatically repels water, mud, ice and other liquids. This revolutionary new class of coatings cause water to form nearly perfect spheres, which roll off the surface keeping items dry and clean (NeverWet brand image, n.d.). This chemical combination works because the chemicals create lower surface energy on the applied area. This results in water and numerous other liquids being propelled into a spherical shape off of the area. This technology keeps the applied areas completely dry and clean from numerous liquids. NeverWet was not the first super hydrophobic treatment created, but it was the first...
