An Analysis of Dave Egger's Novel "The Circle" Essay

In the near future, there is an Internet company that allows users to integrate all data from previous accounts such as passwords, bank statements, posts, and health records all into one single social media account. This company and community, The Circle, is the world's largest monopoly that may look like its doing good by making consumer life more convenient, but if the intentions are looked at from a deeper standpoint, it is a company striving for global power. Mae Holland is a new member of The Circle Corporation. She is a unique young lady who is trying to make society function better every day. She explores The Circle through a series of adventures from her job as a Customer Service associate. She learns about the company and its supposed intentions for the world, but her sense of judgment becomes confused as different inputs and opinions from her circle of friends, family, and a sketchy relationship are considered. She learns that The Circle is not the utopian community that it is believed to be. In the novel The Circle by Dave Eggers, several symbols, allusions, and metaphors are used to create a satirical utopian novel about corruption and the development of modern society.The symbols used in the novel are situated to satirize the cleanest, most organized, most social, and most honest community on earth. The central theme of the novel is the importance of transparency from the workers of The Circle, as well as the leaders of the world. Because citizens are tired of government corruption and scandals, one of the Circle's motive is to end it all by convincing certain politicians to broadcast every part of his or her life to the citizens of the world.
