Nobody is a lonely island. We all need friends. In writer Judith Viorsts short article All kinds of friends she identifies six types of friends, Convenience Friends, Special-Interest Friends, Historical Friends, Crossroads Friends, Cross-Generation Friends and Close Friends. Among these categories, Close Friends are the most important for me. Viorst defines, we will frequently turn--for reassurance, for comfort, for come-and-save-me help--not to our blood relations but to friends. (9) Speaking of close friendship, I always think of Rachael Li Viorst describes, Emotionally and physically we maintain some ongoing friendship of deep intimacy. (9) She believes that we reveal our private self to our close friends. Rachael is the person I would share my private feelings and dreams with. Although I am seeking education in America right now and she is in China, we still contact each other frequently. I remembered the first few months after I arrived in US were really a hard time for me. I could not catch up with the classes because teachers talked fast and used a lot of vocabularies I did not know. I did not feel like talking with people that much because everything was so different from the environment I was familiar with. I had insomnia sometimes. So I turned to Rachael and talked about all my problems to her almost every other day. She listened carefully to me each time. She comforted me with her kindness. She understood my situation and encouraged me to read and practice English more. She suggested me give myself a period of time to transit and get over the hardship. I found out day by day I began to like the new environment more and more. She was happier than I was when I told her I made a new friend today.
