A Psychological Analysis of the Life of Rodney Alcala Essay

Rodney Alcala, known as the The Dating Game Serial Killer, had a certain disorder that leaded him to his occurrence of becoming that person he is still today. Usually, when a child is abandoned at a very young age, they have this feeling that theres something wrong them. They feel like it is their fault of them causing their parent or parents leaving the household. Rodney Alcala had that feeling of guilt and blaming himself due to his father leaving the house when he was a child. The type of disorder that is being described is an Antisocial Personality Disorder. Like being said, this usually occurs during childhood. It is a scar of such trauma and it can be long-lasting, destroys self-esteem and can make a child feel unloved and unwanted (Healthpsychologyconsultancy 2012). Many people who have been abandoned as a child have abandonment issues in adulthood. This also leads to having difficulties trusting people or even form a relationship with anyone. Alcala when growing up he went to the military which also leaded him to the other half of the problem of the disorder. He became very violent and a threat to others. The result that occurred after all of the incidents he dealt with throughout his life, he became a major threat to society becoming a serial killer.The theory which describes the case of Rodney Alcala is the Low Self- Control Theory. Travis Hirschi and Michael R. Gottfresdon are the original theorist of the self- control theory. They explain due to the way a child has been raised by a guardian, guardians or whoever raised the child, will affect the childs behavior. Poor socialization occurs when a guardian fails to monitor their child. If a child had bad parenting the child will misbehave and if the child had good parenting then the child will behave.
