A Comparison Between Ethical Relativism and Ethical Egoism Essay

Philosophy 103 Ethical Relativism vs. Ethical EgoismNot all men are the same. Some tend to keep to themselves, while others shout to the world. Ethical relativism and ethical egoism are two characteristics of humans, man or women. The exact definition of ethical relativism is In ethics, the belief that nothing is objectively right or wrong and that the definition of right or wrong depends on the prevailing view of a particular individual, culture, or historical period (www.dictionary.com). What this is saying that under the individual who is an ethical relativism, they tend to believe that what they are doing is neither right nor wrong. You can be walking down the street and if your belief is to punch a random individual, you will punch the first individual you see. Even though it is ethically wrong to do it, due to assault which can be brought forth in front a judge and be tried, some individuals still do it just because its the spur of the moment. A good example of ethical relativism is the Aztec culture. The definition says its the rights or wrongs depending on the prevailing view of a particular individual, culture, or historical period (www.dictionary.com). The Aztec believed in human sacrifice to the gods. Which helped them to their understanding, overcome the need to help the gods, to benefit them in succeeding as a culture. Even though today some practice of sacrifice is practiced, and is banned due to either cruelty or banned by law, many say would see this as a revenge on human society. This is Due to the time frame and the historical era that they lived in. They werent introduced to a religious aspect that we in a human society believe in.
