The Similarities and Differences Between the Spinoffs Frasier and Cheers Essay

Frasier as a past innovation is unique one of its kind. Unlike many other spinoffs, Frasier was just as, if not more, successful than the original show Cheers. Frasier combines the humor of Cheers as well ads a certain sophisticated and chaotic humor to it. Like many others spin offs, Frasier was bound to be compared to its parent show, Cheers. However it had several distinguishing features from Cheers and veered of the path that Cheers followed. The important aspect to note in this innovation is that this television show strayed of the path, in terms of story, from the original show and turned out to be more successful than most other shows.One way this innovation tackled the art of making a successful spin off was to use a classy or sophisticated character rather than a scummy one. According to an article titled Cheers and Frasier Cheers was a sitcom about a bar that was named Cheers and the people who worked and were always in the bar. While Frasier is about a doctor or psychiatrist who is more sophisticated and strays away from the path of your usual sitcom. In fact Frasier cannot be considered a sitcom because of the way it is portrayed and how the humor is a more sophisticated way of delivering comedy. However In terms of characters and story telling there are some similarities, in that Both television shows have strong character development and distinguishing personality traits among character. For example though Niles and Frasier Crane are brothers and extremely close and also work in the same profession, they are different in the way they approach their personal and work life.
