The book I read call Napoleon and the Napoleonic Wars byAlbert Marrin is about the life and struggle of Napoleon Bonapart. Thebook talk about everything in his life, from the time he was born to thetime he died. The setting takes place in different places, from where hiwas born, where he fought, and were he died. The time period is from1769-1821.Napoleon was born on August 15, 1769, in Ajaccio, Corsica,and was given the name Napoleon. He was the second of eightchildren of Carlo Bonaparte and Letizia Ramolino Bonaparte.Through his father's influence, Napoleon was educated at the expenseof King Louis XVI, at Brienne and the cole Militaire, in Paris.Napoleon graduated in 1785, at the age of 16, and joined the artilleryas a second lieutenant. Also in 1796, Bonaparte was madecommander of the French army in Italy. Napoleon, no modest soul,decided to leave his army and return to save France. In Paris, hejoined a conspiracy against the government. In the coup d'etat ofNovember 9-10, 1799, he and his colleagues seized power andestablished a new regime the Consulate . Under its constitution,Bonaparte, as first consul, had almost dictatorial powers. Theconstitution was revised in 1802 to make Bonaparte consul for lifeand in 1804 to create him emperor. The cult of Napoleon as the man of destiny began during hislifetime. In fact, he had begun to cultivate it during his first Italiancampaign by publishing his victories. As first consul and emperor, hehad engaged the best writers and artists of France and Europe toglorify his deeds and had contributed to the cult himself by the ceremonies with which he celebrated his rule, picturing himself as thearchitect of France's greatest glory. He had preserved theachievements of the Revolution in France and His goal, he said, wasto find a European state a federation of free peoples. He becamethe arch-hero of the French and to the world.
