A Literary Analysis of Man of La Mancha by Chu T'ien-Hsin Review Essay

Man of La Mancha by Chu Tien-Hsin ReviewMan of La Mancha by Chu Tien-Hsin was my favorite reading from the reading list. Chu Tien-Hsin includes many features of the ChineseTaiwanese culture in most of his writings. In the story, the narrator has a near death experience and makes preparation for death. Based on this description, the story appears to be one that I would enjoy. A good writer design their characters to have humanistic qualities, so the reader can express empathy or at least imagine themselves as the main character. The author succeeded in that standard, as I empathized with the main character in a few ways. I felt empathy for the main character because of his near death experience. The main character had an essay to finish before the deadline. He did not sleep, as the assignment was more important than sleep. To overcome his fatigue, he drank coffee. He ingested an excessive amount of caffeine. As a result, his body endured physiological changes, such as numb fingers and toes and shrunken internal organs. The lack of sleep, excessive caffeine, and arrhythmia contributed to his near death experience. My near death experience was much different. When I was five years old, I had a severe asthma attack that almost took my life. For that reason, I am more empathic towards the main character. Another event I share with the main character was finishing an assignment before the deadline. The attempt to finish his assignment led to the drinking of excessive caffeine, which later contributed to his near death experience. I have endured many sleepless nights to complete assignments, but I handled the situation in a different way than the main character. Often, I would resist the urge to sleep to finish my assignment. After finishing and turning in the assignment, I would not do anything for the rest of the morning but sleep, because my health is important. I would disregard any activities I...
