A Report on the Impact of the Powers of Ten on Flavor Chemistry Essay

Regardless of whether or not my intrigue would remain in learningmore about creating synthetic tastes that have the potential make the livesof company employees (in manufacturing) and customers (in their effort tosave money) alike easier, there is no denying that the Powers of Ten makesits presence known in the field. From the largest scope of serving theworld with cheaper and hopefully tastier goodies to the smallest scope ofgetting to know the quirks and perks of nutrients, flavor compounds, andthe chemistry that makes them both relevant, the Powers of Ten is bothFlavor Chemistry's boon and bane of existence. On a large scale, the labors and intensive research of FlavorChemistry often go hand in hand with the purviews of Product Development (aFood Science subfield) and Marketing (a Business field, but nonethelesscompatible with Food Science), both of which aspire to provide services topeople in the tens of millions. (Of course, companies aspire to feedhundreds of millions, perhaps even billions, as companies like TheMcDonald's Corporation have achieved, in order to make billions ofdollars). In feeding so many individuals with products of any kind, thereare hundreds of billions of possibilities, tens of billions of which maynever be developed before the next millennium, and certainly less than onebillion of which are actually used in today's food industry. For example,peach Brisk tea is not genuinely flavored with peaches. Instead, a flavorchemist will study the peach and create a certain formula to match thepeach's complex flavor and use such a formula to sweeten the iced tea thatwill be sold in stores. This can potentially generate millions more inprofit as opposed to using real peaches if the drink proves to be popularthis is because artificial flavorings can and often are much cheaper thaningredients found in nature.
