The Relationship of the Characters of Will and Skylar in the Movie Good Will Hunting Essay

In the film Good Will Hunting, many personal relationships are displayed. From the beginning, to the end, you can see these relationships grow, while taking an evolutionary course. During the film, Will (Matt Damon), and Skylar (Minnie Driver), experienced such a course. There are six stages that they went through from the beginning to the end, to finally reach Romantic Relationship status. The relationship between Will and Skylar was overall escalating, but had its tough times. The first stage is people who arent interacting. Will and Skylar are aware of themselves as individuals with particular needs, goals, and qualities that affect what they look for in romantic relationships. Before they met each other, they knew the constitutive and regulative rules that they have learned in the past that affect how they interact with others. The second stage in a Romantic Relationship is invitational communication, in which people express interest in interacting. Will and Skylar first broke the ice and started to interact, when Wills friend Chuck tried to impress Skylar, only to be ridiculed by a Harvard student who tried to embarrass him. Will overheard what was going on, and backed his friend Chuck up by embarrassing the Harvard guy, and at the same time, showing how smart and witty he was to Skylar. Once the Harvard guy left, Will and Skylar talked about Harvard, and their active dislike of many of the students who go there. They separated for a while, but later on in the night, Skylar approached Will, and they exchanged phone numbers. The second stage of their Romantic Relationship was complete. Skylar and Will both noticed that they shared similarity of personality, and were both physically attracted to one another. The exploratory communication stage occurs when people explore the possibilities of a relationship. On their date, Skylar and Will went to the horse races, and to a fast-food restaurant to discuss all they had in common. They both disclosed information...
