What It Means To Be HumanThere are many different aspects that define what it means to be a human being. These aspects can pertain to the consciousness, physicality, or intelligence of the species. People have many differences no matter what race, ethnicity, or culture they are accustomed to. However, when considering what a human being actually is, the defining factors that unite and apply to the species as a whole must be considered. There are obvious biological characteristics that humans possess which have allowed them to develop over the course of history in unique ways when compared with other species. However many of these physical characteristics do not solely belong to human beings, as a result the mental intelligence and consciousness of human beings have to be considered as well when trying to pin point exactly what defines them. The two biggest physical aspects that help define humans are the ability to walk on two legs and the use of opposable thumbs. These two characteristics worked hand in hand to allow humans the ability to use tools. The use of tools allowed humans many advantages, such as the ability to create weapons, shelters, and transportation. These advantages set humans apart from all other species and were a big factor in the creation of the complex and advanced societies around today. The ability to walk on two legs allowed humans the use of their hands, and opposable thumbs allowed humans to use the materials around them to accomplish tasks. Various other species have the ability to walk on their hind legs or to use opposable thumbs as well.
