A Character Analysis of Kawada and Kiriyama in Battle Royale Essay

Battle Royale Kawada and Kiriyama, as we see in the beginning, are implied to have volunteered to be part of the Battle Royale. Kawadas motivation to volunteer was figuring out why Keiko said thank you when he had shot her dead. Kiriyama, on the other hand, in my opinion, is a sadist. Kawada tells Shuya and Noriko that they had both placed too much trust on him and then told them there was never a Keiko. He continued and said that he had just made up that story to lure them into trusting him. However, in the end, moments before his death, he revealed he finally found the reason as to why she smiled and that it was Thank you At the end Im glad, I found a true friend. However, he died before he could continue after Thank you. This unknown answer will haunt Shuya and Norikos minds until they try to figure out as to what it means like Kawada had done. Kiriyama is the other one of the two transfer students. As I have said before, he is a sadist. I am not judgmental or anything, but he has shown plenty of evidence that he is a sadist. The first reason (the most important), he signed up for it willingly for fun. What kind of sane person would willingly want to kill people for fun? To add to his already creepy tension, he comes out of a battle with the last of the hackers blinded from the explosion with black substance spilling out of his eyes. The second reason, he always had a mysterious yet creepy feeling. He had not spoken a word throughout the film, and that made him the biggest threat in the class. He had the biggest body count with 12 kills (13 if you include Shinji Mimura blew himself up in the middle...
