Causes and Symptoms of Congenital Hemiplegia Essay

Hemiplegia is known as either congenital or acquired. Both take place when a child is young. Congenital hemiplegia happens to a child by damage to the brain before, during, or after birth. Acquired hemiplegia is obtained later in childhood by injury or illness. Although it affects each child differently, it results in a lot of restrictions throughout that persons life.No one really knows how a child gets congenital hemiplegia. It seems that there is a higher risk for a premature baby to be born with it than for a full term baby to be born with it. A difficult birthing process may also be an occasional factor. Parents normally become aware that their child has hemiplegia during his or her infancy. Acquired hemiplegia is normally obtained when a child has a stroke, an accident or an infection. Parents often worry that they are the cause of their childs condition, but are told they are not and that it is mostly a matter of chance.The affects caused by hemiplegia arent the same for every person. You can tell a person has this condition just by looking at them. Others you can only tell if they try to perform a certain activity because it will be harder or impossible for them to do. Some people have damage on the right side of the brain causing a left hemiplegia, and some people have damage on the left side of the brain causing a right hemiplegia. The most obvious problems that a hemiplegic person may have are weakness and lack of control on the affected side of the body. Some people may be completely paralyzed on the affected side, while others may just be weak and not be able to move that side correctly.As of right now, there is nothing to cure hemiplegia.
