Jasper Johns is an American Contemporary artist who woks primarily in painting and printmaking. Jasper is famous for the painting of three flags. Which is placed in the Whitney Museum of American Art. Jasper Johns was awarded with five different awards for the wonderful paintings produced.Born in Augusta, Georgia on the 15TH Of May 1930, Jasper Johns spent his early life in Allendale, South Carolina with his parental grandparents after his parents marriage failed. He completed high school in Sumter, South Carolina where he once lived with his mother. Johns studied at the University of South Carolina from 1947 to 1948, a total of three semesters. After graduating as valedictorian of his high school class. After being at university for three semesters Johns then packed up and left for New York City. The painting of the Three Flags by Jasper Johns was painted in 1958. The painting was done in encaustic on canvas, the painting consists of three American flags, in there usual red, white and blue colours, with 48 white stars in a blue canton on a field of 13 alternating red and white stripes. A total of 84 white stars are visible from the three layers, reversing the usual 48 stars representing the then U.S States of the U.S between 1912 and 1959.Johns Received five awards for his wonderful paintings, in 1988 Johns was awarded with the Grand Prize for Painting at the Venice Biennial Artist of the year, In 1989 Awarded Awards by MIR, In 1990 Johns was awarded National Medals of Art, 1993 Praemium Imperiale and in 2011 he was awarded Presidental Medal of Freedom.Jasper Johns Is a very inspiring artist to some who enjoy art, the paintings of his three flags was very famous and he was awarded with five different awards.
