The Absence of Caution When Communicating: An Analysis of Robert Kuttner\'s The Other Side of Email Essay

The way we communicate is not only through phone and letters now in days technology as with communicating has evolved so that we now do so thought email, chat rooms, and even live webcasting. In the essay by The Other Side of Email, Robert Kuttner argues the effects that different types of communication have brought to the communicators. In the essay he states that email has a dark side and email is also a thief since it steals time from our precious life (Kuttner, 243). For instance, Kuttner also declares that emailing wastes too much time out of the daily life of a human being that emailing makes us think that we have endless additional hours in the day to engage in communications In addition, he declares that email is also not secure, it creates false intimacies, and it is deliberately mistakenly put onto mass circulation. Through the use of email, Kuttner believes that we may be making the best of it, but email is rather an awkward adolescent that has borrowed the family car, hormones raging and radio blaring, with little regard for the rules of the road (244). In this statement he declares that email had yet to bring horrible effects other than just the lack of privacy and the waste of time. Kuttner is in fact right to say that email is like an adolescent because email now has gone from just communication to cyber bullying, sextingporn, online predators, false identities, and so many other dangers that it is now unsafe for even little children to access any type of online communications.Emails according to Kuttner have a dark side however, its not just emails also things as social networking Facebook, Google, and Twitter. People use these social networks as an advantage because this is the way they can get to meet girls and boys online even though not knowing them and it eases the communication process.
