Summary of The Giver by Lois Lowry Essay

The Giver, written by Lois Lowry, is about a twelve year old boy named Jonas. Jonas is a normal boy who lives in a hueless community. Life there was serene and peaceful and nothing ever changed until the day of the ceremony of twelves. It is when people were assigned a job until a certain age. Jonas was chosen as the new Receiver of Memories. Being chosen to be a receiver meant great honor and respect but little did he know about the pain and the misery he was to receive. Time after time as Jonas visited The Giver, the old receiver, he gained more knowledge and wisdom of the past. Jonas became curious about his responsibilities, gained courage from the memories and became sensitive on how the community was ruled. Jonas is a very curious boy and he becomes even more curious as he started his teachings as a new Receiver. He was eager to know what kind of things The Giver will transmit to him. Jonas was even more intrigued when The Giver told him he will transmit the memories of the world. Jonas was burning with curiosity as the people and places started to change around him. Jonas was curious and mystified about how the processes of release were organized and how it occurred. He was intrigued by many different things ...
